The Artist – Maxie Makay
Maxie Makay, an accomplished Artisan and Professor for over 30 years. Maxie’s life experiences have taken her on worldwide journeys to such places as St Thomas, South Korea, England, Texas, Florida, and Massachusetts. Her students have ranged from preschool to age 95.
Her creativity and thirst for excellence has helped her gain the knowledge of a PhD in Curriculum Development, a Master’s Degree in Business, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications Studies, Minors in Art History, Directing, Theater and Literature while specializing in all areas of the Arts and Public Speaking. She has completed numerous art courses at Northeastern, Simmons, the University of Massachusetts and many private classes with professional artists.
Although Maxie has studied some of the great masters, she has also studied some of the great contemporaries such as Thomas Kinkade “The Painter of Light,” Bob Ross “The Joy of Painting,” Donna Dewberry “One Stroke Painting”, Susan Scheewe “Scheewe Art Workshop: Watercolor and Acrylic Painting,” Joyce Ortner “Painting the Perfect Wave,” Karrie Evenson’s “Brave and Bold,” and Jerry Yarnell “School of Fine Arts” just to mention a few. But, learning to paint wasn’t enough for Maxie.
She has also held multiple teaching certifications in various States teaching Painting and Creative Arts, Art History, Set Design, Musical Theatre, Pantomime and other forms of Theatre Arts, Journalism and Communications in preschools, elementary schools, middle schools, private schools, colleges and universities. Her services, however, did not end when the school bell rang. She taught many community classes over the years in a multitude of Arts and Craft venues, Floral Design, Accessories of Interior Design, traditional landscape, seascape and figure Oil Painting, Bob Ross Wet-On-Wet Oil Painting, Acrylic Abstracts, florals, Landscapes, Decorative Tole Painting, Scroll Work, Watercolor still life, portrait painting, Pastel animal and landscape Painting, Multimedia Abstract Painting and Sculpture, Charcoal Sketching, Jewelry Making and Design and even Chinese Brush Painting.
Along with her talents, Maxie has developed a unique ability to draw out and help her students develop their inner most needs, wants and desires. As early as her late 20’s she developed a system to “Motivate Students in the Classroom” that was adopted by the Department of Education in Washington DC and taught to Harvard Professors so they could help their students develop to the fullest. Maxie has always been able to bring the best out in each and every student. It is her belief that every human being possesses talent and creativity and it is her quest to help each person find the talent locked up inside them, find the flood gates and bring forth new life.
The Maxie Makay Method
Learn important facets of painting, such as color mixing, components of color, composition, glazing, brush and palette work, paint application, texture and a little history. The Maxie Makay Method is a three stage process that will allow our students to learn techniques and painting theory by taking certain classes in an ordered progression so that you can build on your experience and have the opportunity to grow and learn as an artist.
